Instaling RightFont 812/31/2023 ![]() ![]() If there is an optic installed, go ahead and take it off as we'll need to put the upper receiver in a vise in a couple of steps.įor purposes of this article, we'll assume that the rifle has a standard A2 gas block and front sight installed. Crush washers allow you to tighten the flash hider and time it correctly, so the non-slotted section is on the bottom.Īt this point, I think it's simpler to separate the upper and lower receivers. If it's a standard A2-style like this one, you'll want to use a brand new crush washer when reinstalling later, so be sure to have a supply of those on hand. Next, you'll want to remove the flash hider or muzzle brake. The delta ring is under some serious spring pressure, so if you plan on doing this a lot, invest a few bucks in a handguard removal tool - you won't regret that purchase. Simply pull the delta ring towards the receiver, and ease out each half of the handguard. The first step is to remove the standard plastic hand guard. Freeing the barrel from handguard stress allows it to operate independently of hand, sling, bipod or accessory pressure, thereby making it more consistently accurate shot to shot. With that in mind, let’s take a look at how to help your customer upgrade their stock AR plastic handguards to a more accurate - and sharper-looking - free-floated handguard model. After all, one of the great things about the AR-15 platform is its modularity. That makes for an opportunity to provide advice and sell add-on products. Many of your customers have them, and many of those who purchased ARs recently are newbies. While sales of new units have slowed to more rational and sustainable levels, the AR-type rifle remains a hot topic. ![]() With that in mind, we’re launching a new series to help you and your staff learn and fine-tune skills that you can use to provide valuable services to your customers. Demonstrating, teaching, helping and sometimes doing are all things that you can use to make your business indispensable. One of the best ways to compete with online discount retailers is to provide unique service capabilities. If you sell and install a free-floated handguard like this Mission First Tactical model, it's a great time to offer a flash hider upgrade too.

![]() A relational database is one in which data is organized into one or more tables. Popular examples of relational databases are Microsoft Access, MySQL, and Oracle. The most popular form of database today is the relational database. Relational Databasesĭatabases can be organized in many different ways, and thus take many forms. For the purposes of this text, we will only consider digital databases. For example, a database that contains information about students should not also hold information about company stock prices. Databases are not always digital – a filing cabinet, for instance, might be considered a form of database. All information in a database should be related as well separate databases should be created to manage unrelated information. It is an organized collection, because in a database, all data is described and associated with other data. In order to do this, the system must be able to take data, put the data into context, and provide tools for aggregation and analysis. A database is designed for just such a purpose.Ī database is an organized collection of related information. The goal of many information systems is to transform data into information in order to generate knowledge that can be used for decision making. In some cases, such as with an e-book, you may only have the ability to read the data. Some other examples of data are: an MP3 music file, a video file, a spreadsheet, a web page, and an e-book. The word-processing software can manipulate the data: create a new document, duplicate a document, or modify a document. For example, if you are editing a document in a word processor such as Microsoft Word, the document you are working on is the data. Examples of DataĪlmost all software programs require data to do anything useful. It often takes many years to develop wisdom on a particular topic, and requires patience. We can say that someone has wisdom when they can combine their knowledge and experience to produce a deeper understanding of a topic. The final step up the information ladder is the step from knowledge (knowing a lot about a topic) to wisdom. This knowledge can be used to make decisions, set policies, and even spark innovation. We can say that this consumption of information produces knowledge. Once we have put our data into context, aggregated and analyzed it, we can use it to make decisions for our organization. By adding the context – that the numbers represent the count of students registering for specific classes – I have converted data into information. Returning to the example above, if I told you that “ 15, 23, 14, and 85″ are the numbers of students that had registered for upcoming classes, that would be information. To be useful, it needs to be given context. ![]() A number can be qualitative too: if I tell you my favorite number is 5, that is qualitative data because it is descriptive, not the result of a measurement or mathematical calculation.īy itself, data is not that useful. “Ruby Red,” t he color of a 2013 Ford Focus, is a n example of qualitative data. Quantitative data is numeric, the result of a measurement, count, or some other mathematical calculation. But I would have given you data.ĭata can be quantitative or qualitative. If I told you, “15, 23, 14, 85,” you would not have learned anything. Data, Information, and Knowledgeĭata are the raw bits and pieces of information with no context. Without data, hardware and software are not very useful! Data is the third component of an information system. ![]() Imagine opening a web browser but there were no web pages. Imagine if you opened a music player but there was no music to play. Imagine if you turned on a computer, started the word processor, but could not save a document. However, those two components by themselves do not make a computer useful. You have already been introduced to the first two components of information systems: hardware and software. If you are not required to use this edition for a course, you may want to check it out. Please note, there is an updated edition of this book available at.

Rough draft of a research paper12/31/2023 ![]() This will result in a better mark on your paper. The bulk of the work in writing your paper is in creating your rough draft. The Importance of Drafting Your Paper Properly It does not need to be perfect, but your main points, information, and thesis need to be included. Since it is your work before it is ‘polished’ into the final version, the main objective of the rough draft is to create content. Here are some tips on creating your rough draft:Ī rough draft is a first look at your work it is your work-in-progress paper without revisions. Drafting is an important skill to have for writing in university and, later on, your career. It is also an opportunity to write down all of your thoughts and information in a setting where it will not be scrutinized by anyone but yourself. In other words, when your professors or instructors say, “polish your writing,” it means that you should go over your writing and make sure you do not have any errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and to make sure that you do not have any sentences that do not make sense. The rough draft is one of the most labour-intensive aspects of writing. The word polish originally meant to make something smooth and shiny, as in “she polished her leather shoes.” In writing, polish can mean to improve or perfect, or refine a piece of writing by getting rid of minor errors. We often hear professors or instructors say that you need to “ polish your writing.” What do you mean by polish? This is a lot like polishing your writing. In other words, editing means that you take care of minor errors in your writing. You may want to read our resource on basic rhetorical elements to help guide your revision.Įditing typically means that you go over your writing to make sure that you do not have any grammatical errors or strange phrases that make it difficult for your readers to understand what you are trying to say. In a word, revising means that you organize your writing better in a way that your audience can understand your writing better. You may add more paragraphs or remove paragraphs to better fit into a given genre or topic. Revision lets you look at your paper in terms of your topic, your ideas, and your audience. What is the difference between revise and edit? For more information on drafting and revising your work, watch our Drafting and Revising video. That means, you shouldn't be missing any of the major parts of the paper. When you are required to submit a rough draft, it doesn't need to be perfect, but it does need to be complete. In the rough draft, readers want to see if you have a clear direction in your paper. ![]() This usually means that your work is still in progress. Your professors or instructors will often require you to submit a rough draft of your paper. ![]() Once you have the skeleton in place, you can start thinking about how to add additional detail to it. Many writers call this a skeleton unto which you develop or “flesh out” the paper. The specific structure of each essay may vary from assignment to assignment. You will usually outline your paper by beginning with its three major parts: introduction, body, and conclusion. This means that you will think about the structure of your paper so that you can best deliver your ideas, and meet the requirements of writing assignments. Next, you may want to outline your paper based on the ideas you came up with while you were brainstorming. Think of this like the erratic thunder and lightning that comes from a thunderstorm. You can brainstorm by creating a list of ideas that you came up with, or drawing a map and diagram, or just writing down whatever you can think of without thinking about grammar. Don't worry about whether or not they are good or bad ideas. When you brainstorm for ideas, you will try to come up with as many ideas as you can. Brainstormingīefore you start writing, you will think about what to write, or how to write. Writers may then edit their rough draft by changing words and sentences that are grammatically incorrect or inappropriate for a topic. After they make a rough draft, writers may begin revising their work by adding more sentences, or removing sentences. Usually, writers start with choosing topics and brainstorming, and then they may outline their papers, and compose sentences and paragraphs to make a rough draft. All writers go through their own unique writing processes before they make their final drafts. Writing can’t be done without going through certain stages. It covers concepts and and key words pertaining to the stages in the writing process, style, citation and reference, and other common expressions in academic writing Stages of the Writing Process This resource provides a list of key concepts, words, and phrases that multi-lingual writers may find useful if they are new to writing in the North American educational context. Cmake variables12/30/2023 ![]() In that case, I recommend using the “–trace” command line argument to cmake. Sometimes, you already know exactly what variables you’re dealing with, but you just don’t understand how it’s getting set to the value that it ends up with. Most recommend a set of documented variables that are intended for public use. Be sure to check the documentation for the package or find module, too. Whether or not a variable exists may be based on some conditional block of code. Of course, this is a bit of a reverse-engineering technique, and the author of the project config file or the find module may think of some of his or her variables as “internal use only.” Use any information you learn from this technique wisely: understand that CMake has an IF command, and some things happen conditionally. It includes all your variables, and all of the built-in/pre-defined CMake variables, and all of the ones defined by package config files that you’ve included, too… You may be surprised at the number of CMake variables that are defined, especially if you have a pretty small or simple CMakeLists for your project.įor example, you could call this function after a call to find_package to see what variables are available after the package is found. Put this function in your CMakeLists.txt file and then call the function to see what it looks like. ![]() Although, in some contexts, you may need to use the message calls without the STATUS arg, because STATUS messages do not show up in the output stream. This little function can be used in a CMakeLists.txt file, or in a CMake -P script, or in a ctest -S script, or in a find module, or even in a script file run at CPack time. Martial law trump news12/30/2023 This is what happened in Hawaii during World War II. Third, on some occasions, the military has taken the place of the civilian government. For example, state and federal troops were deployed to help police suppress the 1992 Los Angeles riots. Second, and far less frequently, the military assists civilian authorities with “law enforcement” activities. For example, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the military deployed helicopters along the Gulf Coast to carry out search-and-rescue missions that local governments were unable to do themselves. First, the armed forces sometimes assist civilian authorities with “non–law enforcement” functions. In the United States, however, the military’s domestic activities typically fall into one of three categories. at 315 (“The term martial law carries no precise meaning.”). “Martial law” has no established definition. Until Congress and state legislatures enact stricter and better-defined limits, the exact scope of martial law will remain unsettled, and the president’s ability to order domestic troop deployments short of martial law will be dangerously broad. Moreover, although lacking authority to replace civilian authorities with federal troops, the president has ample authority under current law to deploy troops to assist civilian law enforcement. Outside of these general principles, there are many questions that simply cannot be answered given the sparse and confusing legal precedent. Constitution and are subject to review in federal court. State officials do have the power to declare martial law, but their actions under the declaration must abide by the U.S. Congress might be able to authorize a presidential declaration of martial law, but this has not been conclusively decided. It concludes that under current law, the president lacks any authority to declare martial law. To do so, it draws on recent legal scholarship, the few rules that can be gleaned from Supreme Court precedent, and general principles of constitutional law. This report aims to clear up the confusion that surrounds martial law. The precedents are also old: the most recent one - in which the Court overturned Harry White’s conviction - was decided almost 75 years ago. The Supreme Court has addressed it on only a handful of occasions, and the Court’s reasoning in these decisions is inconsistent and vague. The Constitution does not mention martial law, and no act of Congress defines it. Yet the concept has never been well understood. footnote5_w2061ch 5 Joseph Nunn, Guide to Declarations of Martial Law in the United States, Brennan Center for Justice, August 20, 2020. Indeed, federal and state officials have declared martial law at least 68 times over the course of U.S. 1945).Īs White’s story illustrates, martial law - a term that generally refers to the displacement of civilian authorities by the military - can be and has been employed in the United States. Instead, just five days after being arrested, White was tried without a jury, convicted, and sentenced to five years in prison. But Major Murrell, the presiding military officer, rejected these motions. ![]() His attorney objected to the court’s jurisdiction, requested a jury trial, and asked for time to prepare a defense. The army controlled every aspect of life in the islands, from criminal justice to parking zones and curbside trash removal. The rules governing everyday life were set not by an elected legislature but by the military governor. Its courts were closed and replaced with military tribunals. footnote2_ytszekb 2 Although Hawaii was an incorporated territory, not a state, in 1942, the Supreme Court found that the Constitution applied there in full and that the legality of martial law must be analyzed as though it were a state. It had been under martial law since the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. Terraria halo enemies12/30/2023 ![]() What this big-bad revival reminds us is that we’re better off with bosses in our gaming lives. And there’s Destiny, a series that brought bosses back in a big way by borrowing ideas from massively multiplayer online games like World of Warcraft, making them nigh-insurmountable challenges that required teamwork from a large group of players. Runaway sleeper hits like Shovel Knight nakedly emulated and updated 8- and 16-bit sensibilities, where challenging levels were par for the course and boss fights took center stage. Souls and its sequels/spinoffs inspired countless imitators to such an extent that ‘ Souls-like’ is now a genre descriptor. Demon’s Souls had already embraced the opaque design and challenges of classic games, adding names like Ornstein and Smough to the wince-inducing canon of legendary video-game big bads. Then a wave of nostalgia brought the boss back. ![]() Open-world and online games flourished, player choice became paramount, and boss fights in games that felt otherwise wide open - like the notoriously underwhelming boss confrontations in otherwise acclaimed games such as Bioshock or Deus Ex: Human Revolution - ended up feeling like dead weight. After much deliberation, we have determined that Guitar Hero 3 ’s “Through the Fire and Flames” and Top Gun ’s “Aircraft Carrier” are more Levels than they are Bosses, and we have recategorized them accordingly. ![]() We had to, since FromSoftware games somehow keep getting harder. We originally published this list in 2017, and have updated it to reflect the most recent, cutting edge advancements in boss difficulty.
